Job Description

The Electrical Technician maintains all electrical systems, switchgear, and distribution equipment across the offshore installation. Operating in potentially explosive atmospheres, this role demands CompEx certification and a thorough understanding of ATEX requirements. The Electrical Technician ensures electrical systems are safe, reliable, and compliant with all applicable electrical standards.

Responsibilities

Electrical Systems Maintenance

  • Perform planned and corrective maintenance on HV/LV electrical systems, switchgear, and transformers.
  • Maintain MCC panels, VFDs, UPS systems, and emergency generation equipment.
  • Execute cable management, termination, and insulation resistance testing.
  • Conduct motor overhauls, testing, and commissioning activities.

ATEX & Hazardous Area Work

  • Perform all electrical work in ATEX-classified hazardous zones per CompEx procedures.
  • Inspect and certify Ex electrical equipment for hazardous area integrity.
  • Maintain ATEX equipment inspection records and Ex certification registers.

Testing, Reporting & Compliance

  • Conduct electrical safety tests (insulation resistance, continuity, earth fault loop impedance).
  • Maintain electrical maintenance records and CMMS work order completion.
  • Support electrical commissioning and shutdown activities.

Requirements

  • BSc or HND in Electrical Engineering, or trade qualification with extensive experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of offshore electrical maintenance experience.
  • CompEx Ex01–04 certification (mandatory).
  • IEE/IET Wiring Regulations proficiency.
  • OPITO E-TECH (Electrical Technician) certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of ATEX Directive and IEC 60079 standards.
